IMPACT OF ICTs AS A SOCIALIZING AGENT IN VENEZUELA

ABSTRACT
ICTs represent a social revolution regarding global communication and unimaginable ways to produce knowledge. In this respect, this paper revises the socializing role ICTs have had in the Venezuelan educational context. As a result, the need of applying ICTs with a major social and educational impact to individually and collectively improve the quality of life in everyday activities is sensed. In order to crystalize this application, it is necessary to promote public policies that  a. generate syllabuses including popular knowledge, b. focus on the less privileged social population, and c. create training programs for Software, Hardware and content knowledge. In conclusion, ICTs have to be seen as a political matter. As such, public policies mentioned above must be
citizen-centered so that they fulfillpeople’s needs and warrant social righteousness.
